Brickell City Centre Transformation Photos From 8th St. Metromover

Construction on Brickell City Centre is continuing to move rapidly and the changes are readly apparent when you stand at the 8th St. Metromover.

What was an almost 180 view of Brickell is now slowly blocked by the construction of Swire Properties Hotel East and Wellness center.

Brickell City Centre is changing the landscape of Brickell and it's been amazing to watch the transformation unfold.

Construction of the first phase is expected to be completed at the end of 2015.

Below are photos of the construction progress.

May 2012 - They are beginning to remove the trees from the land and move them to Museum Park. They have started the freezing process to be able to dig underground. Construction has not yet started at NINE at Mary Brickell Village or 1100 Millecento.

August 2012 - The trees have been removed and workers are in the process of removing all the dirt to create the underground parking.

October 2013 - Over a year later, Hotel East is beginning it's vertical rise. Digging is still continuing for Condo West and Condo North. NINE at Mary Brickell Village and 1100 Millecento can now be seen.

December 2013 - Hotel East is growing taller and NINE at Mary Brickell Village is not visible anymore. Swire is starting the process of building out the underground parking.  Condo North has not started to rise yet.

April 2014 - The underground parking has completed its rise and concrete has been poured to make way for the construction of the steel beams. Tobacco Road can no longer be seen. The Wellness Center, Condo North and Condo West have started to rise and their parking garages have been completed.

Swire Buys More Land in Brickell

Site of Purchased Swire Property

According to exMiami, Swire Properties has a deal to buy more land in Brickell located at 602 South Miami Avenue and 614 South Miami Avenue. One of the pieces of land houses a Department of Juvenile Justice building and the other is an empty lot.

The acquired land is meant to enhance the traffic flow for pedestrians and vehicles around 6th street and South Miami Avenue.

With the purchase of these properties, plus Edge at Brickell and the possible site of Waterside at Brickell that area will have increasing development in the future.

For the past two weeks workers have been changing the exterior of the old Northern Trust building on 701 Brickell Ave.

The building was owned by Northern Trust until it was bought by Swire Properties for $64.1 million in July, 2013. Northern Trust moved their offices next door to 600 Brickell.

Swire has plans to turn the land into an 80 story mixed used building to be called One Brickell City Centre. This will be part of the second phase of construction for Swire, which is currently working on the first phase of Brickell City Centre and is expected to be completed by the end of 2015.

Until the second phase of construction begins, Swire is using the old Northern Trust building as their sales offices with a sales center located on the ground floor of the building.

As for what Swire is using the white fabric over the building for? Only time will tell.

Brickell City Centre Construction Photos - East View

Since last week, construction workers have been adding steel frames to the center of Hotel East. What is this is being used for? I'm not sure, but it looks like it is a delicate process because they aren't going at the rate as they were before.

Below are photos of Brickell City Centre from an East view with a glimpse of the underground parking.
